Mount Rushmore is one of the most famous sculptures in the United States of America. About 3 million people visit the mountain each year to observe its magnificence first hand. It invokes the spirit of patriotism and nationalism in those who view it because it has the faces of some of the most celebrated and hard-working presidents since the founding of America. It is a site that you do not easily forget.
Whether you are with children or alone, you will want to visit this amazingly beautiful site. It is a part of the history of America. It is a place that fuses art with history which is a highly difficult feat.
The Four Presidents Sculpted on the Mountain
Mount Rushmore has the faces of four presidents at its peak; the first, the third, the sixteenth and the twenty-sixth. These four presidents are some of the most remembered people that ever occupied the White House. The first president was George Washington, who is also one of the Founding Fathers of America. The third president, also a founding father, was Thomas Jefferson, the sixteenth was Abraham Lincoln known for the Civil War and the twenty-sixth was Theodore Roosevelt.
The National Memorial
You will have to pay for parking which a lot of people complain about but I think that if you are going to see something as awe-inspiring as Mount Rushmore it is alright to spend a little on parking. The view of the four presidents sitting up in the sky (well, not literally) is truly a tongue-tying moment. You can take all the pictures you want so you can have a reminder of this heritage of America.
There are rangers inside who are well-versed in the history of the four presidents and the slight details of the construction of this sculpture. It is amazing how the rangers are able to explain when, how and why the sculpture was constructed.
There is also a museum you can visit. Usually the place is crowded so people have a little difficulty in navigating but it is worth it once you go to this wonderful place and see for yourself the grand sculpture. These four presidents represent what America stands for and watching them up there is like a beacon of hope. It is one of the wonders of America and is worth visiting at least once in your life.
