Niagara falls are of great fascination to many. The name encompasses three waterfalls that straddle the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the United States’ New York state. The falls attract millions of visitors annually, who come to immerse themselves in this beautiful nature, take photos as well as learn of the legends surrounding the magnificent falls.
The largest of the three falls is the Horseshoe Falls, which are also known as the Canadian falls. These falls are located between the Terrapin point on Goat Island, which is in the New York state and the Table Rock which is on the Canadian side of the falls (although Canada houses the majority of the falls). A panoramic view of these spectacular falls can be obtained at the Goat Island which is on the American side as well as from the Table rock center on the Canadian side.
The American falls which are second to the Horseshoe Falls are located completely within New York. The falls can be viewed from a steep angle from the American side. They can also be viewed from the river bank as well as on Luna Island and Goat Island. However, if you are looking for a head-on view of these magnificent falls, then you will need to proceed on to the Canadian side.
The Bridal Veil Falls hold a mystery of their own. They may be the smallest of the three waterfalls, but they have a big impact in the area, with regards to their formation.
Special to the Niagara Falls is a trip to the IMAX theater. The theater has a screen that stands at 60 feet by 80 feet and is supported by 12,000 watts of earth shaking digital surrounding sound that will give you an “actual” feel of the events unfolding through the screen. The theater which is located in the heart of the Niagara Falls touristic and entertainment district, offers its visitors a look into the miracles, myths and magic associated to the magnificent Niagara Falls. It offers its visitors the best source of daredevil and Niagara Falls history. Image Maximum(IMAX) is designed to mesmerize viewers with a motion picture format.
At the IMAX theater, you will be transported back in time to learn about the history of the falls that span over 12,000 years. While viewing the famed IMAX movie, “Falls Movie: Legends and Daredevils,” you will grit your teeth and move to the edge of your seat as you bear witness to the death defying stunts that were performed by daredevils while they challenged the fury of the Niagara Falls. On its screen, you will see re-enactments of the actual events related to the Niagara Falls, from the French exploration to the war of 1812, from the birth of tourism with tightrope walkers to the first person to tempt fate by going over the falls in nothing but an oak barrel.
Also within the theater walls is the famous National Geographic store as well as a Daredevil Museum. In the museum, you will find actual “barrels” and vessels that people used to go over the falls in.
